What's your philosophy on photographing weddings?
As a photojournalist, I'm interested in telling stories. That means showing not only what happened and who was at your wedding, but what it felt like to be there. The anticipation, the grandeur, the quiet glances exchanged between friends and family - those are the parts that make up your wedding day's story, and those are the details I aim to capture in a visually compelling way.

Do you shoot digital or film?
I shoot weddings with professional-grade digital SLR cameras and lenses - the same ones I use covering Capitol Hill, the White House, and news around the world. Occasionally I will use film alongside digital to add some variety.

What equipment do you use?
I shoot with Canon EOS 5D and 5D Mark II digital SLR cameras, L-series lenses, and the 580EXII flash. My film camera is a Holga.

Do you take formal portraits?
Yes - Though I photograph weddings in a candid, photojournalistic style, most couples who hire me for this reason still want at least some posed portraits of themselves, with family, the wedding party, and other friends. I do my best to make this part quick and fun, and discussing a list of portraits ahead of time helps to ensure we can move through all the combinations efficiently, so you can get back to the main event.

Do you do destination weddings?
Yes - in addition to photographing weddings in Washington, DC and the Maryland and Virginia suburbs, I'm happy to come along and provide you with top-notch coverage anywhere on the globe. Modest travel fees and expenses apply, but you get the peace of mind of having someone nearby during the planning process. I am currently running a half-price promotion for destination weddings outside the continental United States. Visit my pricing page for more information.

Do you do engagement sessions?
Yes - if you'd like a series of portraits as a couple prior to the wedding, or if you want me to be there as or after you pop the question, I'm available for that. Rates for a one-hour session start at $300, and include optimized digital files delivered on CD. As with the wedding photos, I can also have prints or albums created for you at a reasonable fee.

Do you photograph all of your weddings yourself?
Yes - I always photograph the weddings I book myself. Depending on your preference, I can also bring in a second photographer at a reasonable cost. However, every photo you see on this website was taken by me.

Do you have insurance?
Yes - I have a $1 million liability insurance policy, which is required by certain venues. I can provide a Certificate of Insurance (COI) upon request.

If you have any questions I missed, you are welcome to contact me.
